The artist

I am an Australian poet, writer and photographer dedicated to exploring slow living through heartfelt writing, photography and documentary videography.

My work lingers with the beauty of simple moments, moving across four themes: nature and landscapes (Himalayan mountains, sunsets, water, forests), documentary videography (capturing candid human and animal presence), sensory details and still life (vibrant flora, nourishing food, delicate objects, traditional architecture adorned with offerings), and poetry and reflection.

Informed by the Sufi tradition of polishing the mirror of the heart, ancient contemplative traditions, and a unique integration of psychological insight alongside my own journey as a sensitive neurodivergent woman, my creative work offers a space of belonging, sensory clarity, and deep empathy for the human experience.

For me, true spirituality is not about escaping into abstract illusions, but an ongoing practice of staying present and in relationship with life as it unfolds.

Through my writing, photography, and film, I invite you to slow down, honour your own sensitivity, and notice the quiet beauty already surrounding you. ❤︎

The person

My creative work is based mainly in Nepal, where I focus on documenting the quiet, sacred beauty of its communities and landscapes. I am inspired by the organic peace and warmth of the Nepalese communities, simplicity and unhurried rhythms of daily life, breathtaking landscapes, and many stray dogs that roam the streets.

I am an ongoing advocate for the welfare of Nepali stray dogs. After my first trip to Nepal, I discovered a profound sense of purpose in caring for them, and decided to devote myself to long-term support for stray dog welfare initiatives in Kathmandu and beyond.

When I am back home in Western Australia, I continue my creative practice surrounded by the raw, quiet beauty of the local coastal landscapes and native bushland.

Years of living and working abroad in Asia as an ESL teacher allowed me to have space for deep contemplation, adventure and exploration, fuelling my writing, visual art and cross-cultural perspective in the beginning of my artistic journey.

I live in a way that respects and honours my neurodivergence. I know firsthand what it feels like to clash with rigid, exhausting and at times invalidating systems in the modern world. This is why I choose wholeheartedly to live gently, honour and express my truth authentically, and cultivate art that helps the soul settle. I am not interested in following the rat race. I yearn to live honestly and healthily.

Outside of my creative practice, I am a dedicated lover of music, cooking, nature, travel, arthouse films and continuous reading/ learning.

I curate playlists on Spotify of deep, soulful and contemplative music that speaks to the depths of the heart. Find them under “SoulfullyMarie”.
